Intercultural Church
Over the next 10 years, could we see the Church in London become much more intercultural?
London is a global city with hundreds of cultures represented. There has been lots of conversation in the media around multiculturalism whereby different cultures live alongside one another. But the Church is called to go further. We are called to be intercultural.
The book of Revelation ends with a picture of a new city where all nations worship together. Scripture gives us both a theological conviction and framework for what it means to be God’s people. The Church in London has been re-invigorated by the diaspora church and we need to re-imagine what it means to be God’s people here in a global city.
1. The Power of Conversation
An intercultural church is only possible through relationships. Pastor Yinka Afuwape and Andy Frost who have been working together on London-wide projects and have recorded their conversation ‘Skin Deep’. We’re encourgaing leaders to step across divides and build relationships with leaders from different cultures.
2. A Bigger Story
There are a host of resources and city wide stories emerging and we’ll update this webpage with whats happening…
In London, over the last few years, Girma Bishaw has helped bring together many church leaders from different cultures to eat and share life together, believing relationship starts with food! The next Together for London Leaders Dinner is planned for 23rd April 2026. If you are in ministry in London and would like to come along, please let us know and we’ll send you the invite.
The London City Mission have hosted various events on intercultural church. Our monthly email will update you on future events but in the meantime, Pastor Tony Uddin gives ‘6 ways you can encourage authentic multi-cultural church community’.
3. Hosting an Intercultural Day
We are working closely with Rev Osoba Otiagbe who is hosting regional city wide conversations on intercultural church with a host of partners. We will be encouraging groups of churches to explore the content that is being developed to contextualise it locally.
We are continuing to work on national events with ICCT.
